Nursing in Atlantic Canada
Nurses in Atlantic Canada are primarily employed in the publically funded sector. A small minority of nurses find work in the private sector; fewer still are self-employed. The nursing profession includes both Registered Nurses (RNs) and Licensed Practical Nurses (LPNs). Each of the Atlantic Provinces has a separate regulatory body for each of the nursing professions. Nurses represent the largest number of care providers and play an important role in all areas of health care delivery, policy development, education, research and advocacy.
